Mark Wakefield Demolition Ltd is highly experienced in the demolition of structures and plants which have reached the end of their working life. We have experience in executing many demolition projects from Industrial to Commercial, Urban to Petro-Chemical. Using the latest techniques we can carry out high reach, top down mechanical and robotic demolition, each method is independently written and developed according to the working environment.
Dismantling and deconstruction techniques developed over many projects have given us the edge when the project requires the precise engineering needed to moth ball or move an industrial site from one area to another. Credits can often be given to set off the demolition costs and make site moving a more viable option in todays market.
hand demolition -
soft strip / hard strip
Often, the exterior of a building has to be preserved intact whilst the interior is completely stripped of partitioning, flooring and internal walls ready for refurbishment or redevelopment. Mark Wakefield Demolition Ltd has wide experience of painstaking and sensitive soft strip contracts.
This work requires careful control and management as the soft strip often reveals unexpected aspects of the building’s structural design. The successful outcome of many of these contracts depends on our expertise in temporary propping and structural support, and our ability to deal efficiently and effectively with previously unquantifiable hazards as part of the general contract.
As well as the usual removal of floor finishes, suspended ceilings, doors and frames, skirtings, partitions, etc. we also carry out the removal of heavy duty mechanical and electrical installations including plant rooms, lifts and lift motor rooms and roof plant. This work, often complex, is always carried out in tandem with light or partial demolition, where structural and/or non-structural elements of the building are demolished or adapted to make way for alterations to the building. This is usually carried out by a mixture of diamond cutting techniques, robotic demolition or hydraulic bursting/crunching.
Historic Sympathetic Demolition
Mark Wakefield Demolition Ltd has often been asked to complete projects within listed buildings. This provides a challenging environment to work within due to the sensitive surroundings and constraints associated with listed properties.
All of our operatives have extensive experience of using specialist protection equipment and the use of sympathetic machinery to ensure no damage is made to the building. We work closely with the local council building control officers and the client throughout each project to safeguard the building and it’s interior.
Main works include the investigation of ceilings and walls for load bearing calculations as often buildings are altered significantly for different use over an extensive timescale without any specific plans being left for interpretation.
Please see our clients page for details of the companies and organisations that we have completed historic and sympathetic projects for.

Mark Wakefield Demolition Ltd are dedicated to safeguarding the environment through our commitment to responsible environmental practices demonstrated through the extensive range of projects which we are involved in.
Sites often have brick and concrete as core building materials, and developers are becoming increasingly environmentally aware about the need to recycle and re-use where possible. Mark Wakefield Demolition Ltd runs its own mobile plant crusher which enables all suitable brick and concrete to be crushed, stockpiled and re-used further on in the redevelopment. This reduces the need to bring in stock thus being a financially viable and more environmentally friendly option.
Sustainability and recycling have always been of uppermost importance to Mark Wakefield Demolition ltd, and with recent ‘throw away’ trends, we believe it is more important than ever to salvage and recycle everything we can, ensuring less is going to landfill. Where possible, we will recycle the building material, due to the increasing pressure on the earths resources and the ever increasing cost of disposal. Whether it bricks, stone tiles, windows, timber and steel or architectural features all can be cleaned for re-use elsewhere.
Depending on the site and its history, an environmental survey may be required in order to make sure that hazardous materials such as Asbestos are treated correctly and removed safely. We can provide comprehensive asbestos surveys, asbestos management reports and asbestos removal.
Protected species such as Bats, Great Crested Newts, Badgers, Otters, Water Voles, Cray Fish, Reptiles, Breeding Birds as well as protected trees and hedgerows may also need to be considered and surveyed. We can make all the arrangements and organise for the survey to minimise any disruption to the programme.
